Zain Group’s ‘The Masters’: A Game-Changer for Disability Representation

In September 2024, Zain Group, in partnership with PurpleSpace, launched 'The Masters,' the region's first corporate Employee Resource Group (ERG) for people with disabilities. This initiative brings together 30 individuals from across Zain’s operations to focus on four key areas: co-creating Zain’s Disability Inclusion strategy, embedding accessibility into products and services, amplifying voice and visibility, and building leadership skills through the 'Learn and Lead' program.
In November 2024, Zain successfully concluded its three-day 'Learn and Lead' training in collaboration with The Butterfly, a UAE-based disability empowerment organization. Participants from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Jordan, Sudan, and South Sudan—representing physical, visual, and hearing disabilities—were empowered with skills in advocacy, leadership, and public speaking. On December 3rd, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD), the Masters led impactful training sessions across their operations, engaging hundreds of attendees. These sessions highlighted the importance of empowering others by recognizing their leadership potential and ensuring their voices drive meaningful change.
Bader Al-Kharafi, Zain Group Vice-Chairman and Group CEO, commented, “As a leading regional purpose-driven entity, the introduction of The Masters is another one-of-its-kind initiative from Zain that underscores that disability is not merely a term, but an opportunity for people with disabilities to advocate, lead and act … We intend to leave no one behind in terms of their ability to be as active and engaged in society as possible.”
By establishing 'The Masters,' Zain sets a powerful example of authentic representation, demonstrating that when diverse voices are heard and valued, they become catalysts for progress, break barriers, and redefine inclusion. This initiative serves as a reminder that meaningful representation goes beyond creating opportunities—it’s about fostering a community where everyone feels they truly belong.
