Nestlé’s global toolkit to support local implementation of Global Guidance on Disability Inclusion
In September 2024, Nestlé published its Global Guidance on Disability Inclusion, setting out the expectations for its markets as well as roles and responsibilities.
To support markets to understand how they might progress these deliverables, Nestlé created a toolkit, with internal best practices and external resources from respected organisations in the field. It answered the need from markets who were clear on what they needed to do, but not how to do it.
There are five chapters: Creating a culture of inclusion; Training and education; Accessibility and accommodations; Inclusive acquisition, retention and development; and Monitoring progress.
Published on SharePoint, which translates automatically into the reader’s preferred language, each chapter is divided up into manageable sections to make it accessible, engaging and easy to navigate. Tools come in a variety of formats for different learning styles and the languages available are growing all the time.
For example, under the chapter Creating a culture of inclusion, the section on Having a confident conversation includes tools, such as the Purple Space Confident Conversations podcast series, coaching questions for a line manager to discuss workplace adjustments, personal stories about being a carer, and a line manager’s guide to recruiting and developing people with a disability.
The toolkit alongside the Global Guidance on Disability Inclusion has been cascaded through Nestlé’s markets and business units, with a particular focus on functions where actions are required, such as facilities, human resources, marketing and supply chains.
Markets are now using these tools to support their local action plans, with clear KPIs and deliverables for implementation over the next three years.
