ZAINAIC x WE ABLE Assistive Technology Hackathon

In December 2022, Zain held its largest Assistive Technology Hackathon to date. Since November, over 150 employees had embarked on a journey to create assistive technology solutions for people with disabilities, in recognition of Global Entrepreneurship week. With ideas ranging from apps to location devices to sensors of all sorts, these employees competed to be selected as the top 5 candidates.

Once selected, these 5 teams from across 4 different countries were allocated a budget and designed a complete and functioning prototype of their devices dedicated to the inclusion of people with disabilities. The teams were then all invited to an event held in Kuwait to showcase their projects and competed for the prizes allocated to the top 3 teams. On 8 December 2022, they all showcased their proposals to a panel of Zain employees who are experts in innovation and disability inclusion. The top 3 teams with the best prototypes and ideas were selected from Zain Jordan, Zain Bahrain, and Zain Kuwait.

Currently, these ideas are being turned into a reality internally as part of Zain’s innovation and accessibility vision. These products will assist people with disabilities, both Zain’s employees and customers – in a variety of ways.
