Observed each October, NDEAM celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities in the US. The 2019 NDEAM theme was “Right talent, right now”, emphasizing the essential role people with disabilities play in America’s economic success, especially in an era with historically low unemployment and global competition.

IBM celebrated NDEAM through different activities over the month:

  • IBM’s Chief Diversity Officer hosted a conversation in the form of a blog with an IBM manager who happens to live with a disability about the positive and less positive aspects of her inclusion and career development journeys. IBM’s People with Diverse Abilities & Veterans Program Manager joined the conversation to share the latest and most innovative programs to reinforce IBM’s hiring strategy in this space
  • Members of IBM US People with Diverse Abilities Business Resource Groups (or Employee Resource Groups) hosted a panel discussion with employees and managers with or without disability to discuss “10 Questions You’ve Always Wanted to Ask a Person with a Diverse Ability”
  • Self-ID campaign for disabilities and veteran status
  • Blog highlighting IBM’s latest initiatives to hire people with Neurodiverse conditions
