“Path to Success” – Disability employment project launched in Shanghai

3 December 2019 was the 28th International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Taking this opportunity, a project named “Path to Success: Create a Strong Eco-system for Persons with Disabilities in the Labour Market” was launched in Shanghai on 4 December 2019.

The project is supported by the Standard Chartered Global Business Services Co. Ltd. and implemented jointly by Global Business and Disability Network (GBDN)–China and Easy Inclusion. Parissara Liewkeat, Programme Analyst of the ILO Beijing Office presented at the launching ceremony, together with 80 enterprise representatives and researchers.

As one of the Futuremakers’ projects in China, Path to Success which aims at creating a conducive and inclusive workplace for young persons with disabilities, aged 18-30, provides them with vocational training opportunities. The project focuses mainly on persons with visual impairment and blind persons. Vocational skills and employability of target groups will be improved to enable them to enter the labour market easier and to increase their opportunities of being employed.

In 2020, GBDN-China will work closely with Standard Chartered GBS and other 18 member enterprises to help 6,000 persons with disabilities by improving their access to labour market information and opportunities to increase their employability. Meanwhile, the project will support more than 2,000 youth persons with disabilities to obtain an online vocational training using the GBDN-China’s official WeChat account.

Strong social support network will be established in Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangzhou through online courses, workshops, WeChat platform, and internship programs which will help students and youth with disabilities pave their way to decent work.
