In recent years, Sri Lankan persons with disabilities have increasingly combated outdated cultural norms in order to secure their rightful place in society and the labour market. However, persons with disabilities continue having difficulty in finding employment or setting up one’s own business. While hard skills and educational qualifications might sometimes be lacking, there is also a need to work on the soft skills employers and clients are looking for.

Employers also specifically look for candidates who possess soft skills such as interpersonal skills, presentation skills, team spirit, time management, listening and communication skills. To address this issue, the Employers’ Network on Disability Sri Lanka conducted a training on soft skills to place jobseekers with disabilities in gainful employment. Thirteen persons with disabilities successfully completed this soft skills training at the Employers’ Federation of Ceylon which hosts the Network.
